Brittany Wheat

I decided when I was five years old that I was going to be an artist.

I of course thought I'd like to be other things over the years (marine biologist, professional dancer, horse trainer, firefighter) but I never once thought that some other career would keep me from being an artist as well. Over the years, I have been a pharmacy clerk, a retail associate, a photographer's assistant and archivist, and a preschool teacher, but through it all, I always made art as well, even when I wasn't sharing it with people.

I have created art of various kinds for most of my life. I learned a lot about creating and creative processes by simply playing and experimenting with whatever supplies I was able to get my hands on and paying attention to how different mediums worked (or didn't work) together. I attended college for some actual art instruction and earned a bachelor's degree in fine art from Freed-Hardeman Universtiy.

I'm also a happily married, homeschooling mom of three kiddos. Some days I don't get as much time in my studio as I'd prefer, but creating art is vital to my peace of mind and mental health.

I wholeheartedly believe that art is healing and has the power to impact people in ways that nothing else can. To me, the process of creating is just as important, if not more so, than the final product.
